After a month of protests by wrestlers, Kamal Haasan discusses who really merits attention

On the one-month anniversary of their protest, Indian wrestlers were joined by actor-politician Kamal Haasan. As the demonstration approached its one-month mark, the seasoned actor voiced his opinion on social media.

“Today marks 1 month of protests by athletes of the wrestling fraternity,” the actor posted on Twitter. We have made them fight for their own safety rather than for the honour of their country. My fellow Indians, who merits our attention—a politician with a lengthy criminal record or our nation's top athletes? #WrestlersProtest, “#IStandWithMyChampions.”

Numerous female wrestlers and the wrestling community have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), of sexual harassment.

I Stand With My Champions was a popular hashtag used by many supporters to support Kamal. One admirer said, “#KH is the only largest celebrity to come up and support our national heroes for their justice at a time when rest of the renowned Bollywood musicians and celebrities have remained quiet on this subject. #KamalHaasan.” Another person said, “Thanks, Leader. “#IStandWithMyChampions #WrestlersProtest” deserves recognition and justice for our country's sports stars.

Since the wrestlers' protest started in April of last year, Pooja Bhatt, Sonu Sood, Gauahar Khan, Vidyut Jammwal, and Swara Bhasker are just a few of the numerous famous people who have backed them and emphasised their demands. “They are our athletes and troubled, but first and foremost, they are the citizens of the country,” remarked Vidyut at a previous occasion. They should get the necessary assistance. I believe that they are being heard by the authorities, but what comes next? How are they addressing their worries? I'm an athlete, and I have a hunch that things would improve right now if they paid attention to them. They'll follow the proper path.

In Tamil Nadu, Kamal founded the political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). Last year, he appeared in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram. Alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Kalidas Jayaram, and Fahadh Faasil, he appeared in the action-thriller. Suriya appeared in the movie as well.

In progress is the actor's long-delayed film Indian 2. Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and Gulshan Grover are also featured in the S Shankar movie.
